uKnowKids Tip Sheet: The Parents Guide to Social Networking

Learn how to help your kids use the social media and responsibly

"Help! My child is on a social networking site!"

While you may be concerned when your children join a social networking site, it does not mean they are in danger. Social networking sites are places online where young people go to socialize with their friends, talk to people with similar interests, and share what is going on in their lives. There are many things you can learn about social networks to help keep your kids safe:

  • Don't forget to check, and adjust your privacy settings.
  • By default - most social networking profiles are public
  • What you post is public - and anyone can copy or share it whether you want them to or not. Think before you post.
