Long gone are the days when bullying solely consisted of having your lunch money swiped, receiving "swirlies" in the bathroom, having a "kick me" sign taped to your back, and being tripped in the hallway. With the big part that social media now plays in our daily lives, bullying continues past the ringing of the 3:00pm school bell. Though many[ instances of bullying](https://resources.uknowkids.com/blog/bid/269064/Short-and-Long-Term-Effects-of-Bullying-The-Victim-the-Bully) are no longer face-to-face, it is becoming more severe and parents need to become aware of this. 

With October being National Bullying Prevention Month, now is the perfect time to talk to your children about bullying. Some parents may think that with better security systems being implemented in schools across the nation, bullying is becoming less of a concern. However, that is far from reality.

The next in the series involves Akilah C. Thompson, Founder and President of ACT Inspires Inc. and [Generations Inspired Inc](http://www.generationsinspired.org/).

**uKK: What is the nature of your expertise on cyberbullying?**

AT: As an inspirational speaker, I work with teenagers as well as college students and have learned a lot about cyberbullying directly from them and conducting research on the subject to find solutions.  I am also actively involved on social media and have witnessed the impacts of bullying over the Internet. I was a bully myself growing up due to low self esteem and strive to assist young people with tools to be confident in all areas of their lives to avoid being victims of bullying. JB: My experience with **cyberbullying** spans K-12 and college students, as well as in my experiences as a parent of an elementary school child. JH: I teach people how to use operant conditioning to train bullies to stop bullying. Actually, cyberbullying is easier to deal with because it’s impersonal.
